Matthew Midwood

I paint and draw familiar things; objects of interest, buildings and people.

My style is characterised by the need to make fast and confident marks/brush-strokes coupled with a strong sense of colour and form.

Successful work captures an essence of how I am seeing as much as what the thing looks like, producing results that are fresh, clean and as if I have just stepped away from the canvas.

What I strive for is something that looks real rather than just representation.
