Kingston Art Group warmly invites you to the opening night of:
‘Double Take’ – 30 years of Painting by Geoff Keen
Spread across three venues on Friday 4th April until 27th April 2014:
5-7pm @ RED Gallery, 19 Osborne St, Hull, HU1 2NL
7-9pm @ KAG Gallery, 26-27 Humber Street, Hull HU1 1TH
…..and…..Princes Quay’s ‘Pop Gallery’ 6pm – 8pm
This exhibition sees the first cross city collaboration between KAG Gallery, the legendary Red Gallery and the ‘Pop Gallery’ in Princes Quay. We join forces for a display of epic canvases by Geoff Keen. These exhibitions bring together a collection of works, rarely seen before, from a vastly energetic and prolific career that has spanned 30 years.
It is a retrospective that looks forwards as well as backwards, tantalizing the viewer for the next dynamic twist in the Artists career. ‘Oeuvre’ is the key word, the exhibition features huge canvases with grid structures and egg shaped motifs; as well as exploring a range of loose and painterly formats, disclosing the Artists agenda for pushing the medium to its limits.
The collection draws on the most exciting elements of each period of the Artists work – based at Lincoln street in Hull, Chelsea Art school, the Cheltenham Fellowship and then KAG studios in Hull. Red gallery displays the early works,
whilst KAG Gallery holds a selection from later periods.
Geoff trained in Hull, and at Chelsea school of Art where he was tutored by Gary Hume and Albert Irvin. His work has recently featured on the cover of the American design publication ‘Four magazine’ and on the blog ‘47 Park Avenue’. Geoff has featured in the John Moores Painting Prize, was shortlisted for the Rome scholarship, the Picker Fellowship and was awarded the Cheltenham fellowship in Painting in 1992.
A Family workshop will be run to coincide with the show at KAG, see our website for further details or see our Facebook page ‘Kingston Artgroup’. We hope to see you there…
