Echoes by Julia Roach // 3rd – 26th April
Kingston Art Group warmly invites you to:
“Echoes”- work by Julia Roach
Opening on – Friday 3rd April 2015, 6-9pm, at KAG Gallery, 26 – 27 Humber Street, Hull, HU1 1TH
As Hull prepares for City of Culture 2017, KAG presents an exhibition by artist Julia Roach that is reflective of personal experiences over three decades living and working in the city. The exhibition, ‘Echoes’, includes paintings and installations containing intensely personal narratives and often referencing mythological themes, film and the historical portrayal of women.
Julia chooses to appropriate mythology and historical painting – knowing that within these images are themes that resonate throughout the ages and tap into the human condition. The work is contemplative of joyous, humorous and melancholic aspects of life.
Julia remarks, ‘the need to convey meaning visually requires a vocabulary as wide as any verbal one and therefore , I am extending my vocabulary constantly.’
The exhibition revels in imagery and promises to be an illuminating ‘through the looking glass’ experience.
Julia Roach studied Fine Art at Hull School of Art (twice!) took her ATC (Art Teaching Certificate) at Leeds and worked as a nursery teacher in Hull whist supporting a family with husband, artist Roger Roach. She has shown with Red Gallery, Holy Trinity Church, Kingswood, regularly exhibits for International Women’s Day, and with the 10 x 4 group. Her work has been purchased by private businesses and collectors. She also writes a blog called ‘camouflaged exposure’ (camouflagedexposure.wordpress.com).
The exhibition is open Saturdays and Sundays from 12-5pm until 26th April. For further information please see www.kingstonartgroup.co.uk or see our facebook page: Kingston Artgroup.
