Cracks, Crags & Crayons
Saturday 4th November 2017 @ 11:00 am - Sunday 19th November 2017 @ 5:00 pm
Cracks, Crags and Crayons is an exhibition by local artists Cath Cassidy and Keith Norman. They have quite different linear styles which address both an attempt to penetrate the primal evolution and the history of the the countryside and describe the energy and movement of land and sea.
Keith says, “I acknowledge the way in which the land around us is in a continual state of flux. It’s almost impossible to find any British scene in which human manipulation has not had an impact. My work sometimes references archaeology and makes explicit the layers of history. I also acknowledge the often more subtle changes brought about natural movements of tide and time.”
Cath says, “I concentrate upon strong, linear patterns of movement, and the sounds produced by land and sea. The elemental nature of craggy rocks, swirling water, and the call of seabirds provide images which emphasise the critical human connection with the environment. There are also symbolic aspects within the images which attempt to suggest the human journey towards a final goal, a place of rest.”
